SolidWorks - 3D CAD Software
Biggest of ideas were visualized on a humble drawing sheet. If it were possible to build something, see it, test it and then redo it again if it doesn’t look the same as you conceptualised or doesn’t work the same way as you intended, then perhaps there was no need for a design. But what are the costs of doing so? Countless man hours, precious funds and invaluable time to market? If it takes even a carpenter to draw the sketch of a simple window before chiseling it, then can an automotive engineer build a complex motor engine without a design specification? Or can a nuclear scientist construct a reactor without the aid of designs? Having in place a design with minutest of details being addressed, removes any surprises one may face when one finishes building something. Most likely it is going to look the same as you conceptualised and function the same as you intended it to.

As Abraham Lincoln once famously said, “Given eight hours to cut down a tree, I would rather spend first four hours in sharpening the saw” It is thus imperative that we build an approach to designing something that is precise and quick. With computers coming into prominence, many computer-aided design (CAD) tools came to the aid of engineers. Prominent among them were AutoCAD, Pro/ENGINEER, Unigraphics, and CATIA.

SolidWorks was introduced in 1995 as a low-cost competitor to these CAD programs.  SolidWorks helps one take their product design to the next level. It is widely used by engineering professionals, students, and educators worldwide. It is estimated that over 800,000 product designers and mechanical engineers worldwide make use of SolidWorks. SolidWorks offers some of the best tools to design a diverse range of products such as robots and solar-powered vehicles. As educators, it helps one to impart training on CAD skills, whereas it enables students to gain excellent design validation and data management skills.

SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (Product Data Management) is a tool which enables distributed design teams to manage product data, share design information, and automate workflows, thereby improving collaboration between the engineering and manufacturing teams. Its ease of use, scalability, and reliability make it a popular choice with both individuals and large companies.

SolidWorks Simulation packages are specifically tailor-made for designers and engineers who may not possess the required skills in design validation. It offers a variety of result visualization tools that allows one to gain valuable insight into the performance of one’s models. With SolidWorks Simulation, one can specify how SolidWorks models will behave even before they are actually built. One can include several types of loads and restraints to represent real-life situations. One could study different design configurations to understand and gauge which is the best design for the product, thereby reducing chances of a design failure.

Solid Solutions is one of the UK’s leading SolidWorks reseller, which started its operations in 1998. It has over 10 years of experience in providing SolidWorks support and provides three key SolidWorks packages comprising of about 20 modules. Solid Solutions provides full training packages for SolidWorks, CosmosWorks and PDMWorks. The training courses are conducted at its various locations, such as Warwick, Sheffield, Fareham, London, and Cambridge. It also offers consultancy and contractor services.  It has a team of more than 40 SolidWorks skilled engineers, covering a broad spectrum of engineering and CAE experience. Its easy-to-use website allows one to request for a quotation for any of its products or services.
